Funk metal

L.A.P.D. (Love And Peace Dude, later Laughing As People Die) was an American funk metal band formed in 1989 in Bakersfield, California. From 1989 to 1991, the member line-up was James Shaffer, Reginald Arvizu, David Silveria and Richard Morrill. The group has released one studio album, one extended play, and one compilation album.
In 1991, they released Who's Laughing Now, their first full-length studio album. Shortly after the album's release, Capra left the band and was replaced by someone named Corey (Russell). After this, Morrill quit the band, and the rest of the group set out to form the band Korn with two other people. Several of the band's former members have formed solo projects. In 1997, a compilation album consisting of fourteen tracks was released.

In 1997, Chicago's legendary Trouble -- America's premier, and perhaps only Christian doom band -- had finally ground to a halt due to years of slogging it out on the underground circuit with ever-diminishing returns to show for their, ahem, troubles. Following their sad demise, vocalist Eric Wagner was the first to branch out into pastures new, pairing his instantly recognizable, mournful croon (as much a Trouble signature as the colossal, Sabbath-derived power chords of guitarists Bruce Franklin and Rick Wartell) with Danny Cavanagh -- himself already well known for his guitar work with Liverpool, England's Anathema.

Death Organ is a Swedish progressive rock/death metal band led by keyboardist Per Wiberg, who also played keyboards for the Swedish progressive death metal band Opeth and for Michael Amott's stoner metal band Spiritual Beggars. The band's sound is unusual for the heavy metal music genre, as they use no guitars: the band's main instrument is the Hammond organ, played through a guitar amplifier and distortion effects. The vocal style is a mix between clean vocals and death growls.

The group also included Richard Chycki on guitar and bass, Randy Cooke on drums, and Sebastian Bach on vocals. Chycki had also worked with Bach under the band names Sebastian and Hope. The band recorded a series of demos through 1988 and 1989 with guest musicians Bruce Dies and Rob Laidlaw. The tracks were commercially released in 1989 as a self-titled album by InsideOut Music. All the songs on the album were written by Richard Chycki and James LaBrie, except two which Richard Chycki wrote alone. In 1990, LaBrie went to join Dream Theater.
