Mamie Smith (née Mamie Robinson; May 26, 1883 – September 16, 1946) was an American vaudeville singer, dancer, pianist and actress. As a vaudeville singer she performed in various styles, including jazz and blues. In 1920, she entered blues history as the first African-American artist to make vocal blues recordings. Willie "The Lion" Smith (no relation) described the background of that recording in his autobiography, Music on My Mind (1964).

Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come
aka: Arthur Browns Kingdom Come *
United Kingdom
Psychedelic rock, experimental rock, progressive rock

Kingdom Come were a British band of the 1970s, that played psychedelic, experimental progressive rock music. They were fronted by Arthur Brown, who gave them his theatrical style and voice. The combination ensured that the band was a hit on Britain's festival circuit, but lack of record sales, indifference from music critics, and poor record label promotion (especially in the US) led to its eventual demise in 1974. The band was later marketed as Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come in the United States due to name conflicts with an unrelated band with the same name.

Rock, R&B, beat

The Rockin' Vickers were a 1960s English rock and roll band from Blackpool. They were originally called Rev Black and The Rockin' Vicars, then abbreviated to The Rockin' Vicars, but in order to have a chance to get more gigs or even a record contract, they changed their name to The Rockin' Vickers. The band is most notable for featuring Lemmy, who went by the name Ian Willis at the time, later of Hawkwind and more famously Motörhead, as a guitarist (Lemmy did not start playing bass until joining Hawkwind). Their last single "Dandy", a cover of The Kinks song, was produced by Shel Talmy.

Buldožer

Buldožer
Slovenia
Progressive rock, rock, avant-garde

Buldožer (trans. Bulldozer) was Yugoslav-Slovenian progressive rock band from 1970s and 1980s. They were one of the first bands in communist Yugoslavia that could be considered avant-prog, and forefathers of the Yugoslav new wave. In musical sense, they were experimenting with a variety of genres, while most of their lyrics, written in Serbo-Croatian, were a satire and mocking the political and musical establishment, themselves included.
Their appearance on the Yugoslav musical scene in early 1970s was "equal to the appearance of flying saucers with Martians". They jumped onto the dull musical scene, which tried to keep up with the world trend of symphonic rock, full of self-confidence and fresh ideas, and offered pure humor, sometimes on the verge of lunacy, instead of prevailing pathos and overlong solo sections. Frank Zappa was admittedly one of the band's models, and was often subject to comparisons with Buldožer's style.
